SonoAnalyzer OE Analysis Models

Ring sonotrode modelRing plus (Online FEA)

Radial-mode sonotrode in the shape of a simple hollow cylinder.

Enhanced dimensional ranges ("plus" model):
Axial thickness (length) from 5 to 100mm
Inside and outside diameters have linked limits:
Inside diameter from 10mm upwards (with relatively small o.d)
Outside diameter up to 500mm (with relatively large i.d)

(Note: model has not been fully tested to the extremes of all these ranges)

Tube sonotrode model

Fixed-end tube plus (Online FEA)

Radial-mode sonotrode in the shape of a simple tube (hollow cylinder) fixed radially at both ends.

Enhanced dimensional ranges ("plus" model):
Axial length from 20 to 200mm (length is not a significant variable - modes repeat along the length)
Wall thickness 2 to 19mm
Outside diameter 60 to 300mm

(Note: model has not been fully tested to the extremes of all these ranges)

Rectangular-section (block) sonotrode - stepped profileStepped rectangular (block) sonotrode (Online FEA)

This is the first of two new sonotrode models of rectangular cross-section, all sections having equal width and sharing the same central axis.

Analysis method is currently limited to Finite Element Analysis only; a database version may be released in the future, subject to demand.

This model is new in version 1.2.0 (October 2012).

Dimensional ranges:
Overall length 10 to 300mm
Input length 5 to 150mm
Width 10 to 100mm
Thickness (input and output) 5 to 80mm
Blend radius 0 to the lesser of the length difference or half the thickness difference (dictated by geometry)

A Pro version including slots is also available for SonoAnalyzer Pro only.

Rectangular (block) sonotrode with user-defined radiused profileUser-defined profile rectangular (block) sonotrode (Online FEA)

The second new rectangular cross-section model offers an arbitrary user-defined profile defined by a series of diameters and lengths. Blend (fillet) radii may also be included to smooth the transition between sections, including the final (output) section, allowing a radiused or even fully-cylindrical tip profile.

Analysis method will be Finite Element Analysis only; the large number of inputs makes a database impractical for this one.

This model is new in version 1.2.0 (October 2012).

Dimensional ranges:
For each individual section:
  Length 0 to 100mm
  Thickness 5 to 80mm
Overall length 10 to 300mm
Width 10 to 100mm
Blend radii (two per model) 0 to 1000mm, subject to the blend fitting within the section lengths each side

Some additional limitations enforce a smooth transition between sections.

A Pro version including slots is also available for SonoAnalyzer Pro only.

High-frequency user-defined sonotrode modelHigh-frequency User-defined profile cylindrical sonotrode #2 (Online FEA)

This alternative to the standard user-defined #2 sonotrode model offers dimensional ranges extended at the smaller end, for higher-frequency sonotrodes.

Analysis method will be Finite Element Analysis only; the large number of inputs makes a database impractical for this one.

This model is new in version 1.3.5 (May 2013).

Dimensional ranges:
For each individual section:
  Length 0 to 50mm
  Diameter 2.5 to 50mm
Overall length 10 to 250mm
Blend radii (two per model) 0 to 1000mm, subject to the blend fitting within the section lengths each side

Some additional limitations enforce a smooth transition between sections.

User-defined hollow #2 sonotrodeHollow user-defined profile cylindrical sonotrode #2 (Online FEA)

This update to the #2 user-defined sonotrode model has extended dimensional ranges and an optional hole running axially through the entire length.

Analysis method will be Finite Element Analysis only; the large number of inputs makes a database impractical for this one.

This model is new in version 1.4.5 (November 2012).

Enhanced dimensional ranges:
For each individual section:
  Length 0 to 100mm
  Diameter 5 to 100mm
Overall length 10 to 500mm
Blend radii (two per model) 0 to 1000mm, subject to the blend fitting within the section lengths each side
Internal hole from 0 (solid) to 80% of the smallest outside diameter

Some additional limitations enforce a smooth transition between sections.

Hollow exponential profile sonotrodeHollow Exponential Sonotrode (Online FEA)

Using an exponential profile offers high gain without excessive stresses. A true exponential sonotrode would be curved along its entire length but here optional cylindrical sections are modelled at each end, which can make the design much more practically useful. Either or both of the end lengths can be set to zero to eliminate the cylindrical section(s). For a true exponential profile the axial-mode gain is equal to the diameter ratio.

This update to the #2 exponential sonotrode model has extended dimensional ranges and an optional hole running axially through the entire length.

Enhanced dimensional ranges:
Overall length from 10 to 400mm
Top and bottom lengths from 0 to 150mm, subject to overall length
Input and output diameters 2.5 to 100mm
Internal hole from 0 (solid) to 80% of the smaller outside diameter

A Pro version including a through hole or profiled internal section is also available for SonoAnalyzer Pro only.

Hollow stepped #2 sonotrode modelHollow Stepped Sonotrode #2 (Online FEA)

This is an update to the #2 axial-mode stepped sonotrode or booster comprising two solid-cylindrical volumes (corresponding to the input and output of the sonotrode) joined by a step in the middle. Top and overall lengths are defined independently, or the top length can be set as a percentage of the total. The blend radius used for stress-relief on the internal corner is user-defined and may be larger than the step.

Enhanced dimensional ranges:
Overall length from 10 to 400mm
Top length from 2.5 to 150mm, subject to overall length
Input and output diameters 2.5 to 100mm
Blend radius 0 to 1000mm, subject to the blend fitting within the step
Internal hole from 0 (solid) to 80% of the smaller outside diameter

A Pro version including a through hole or profiled internal section is also available for SonoAnalyzer Pro only.

Hollow conical #2 sonotrode modelHollow Conical Sonotrode (Online FEA)

This is an update to the #2 axial-mode conical model. Here a conical section is used to join the cylindrical input and output sections. Three lengths and two diameters define the shape.
